"The Edge"
by Kimura

I slam the door shut and lock it.
I brace myself against it to hold it closed,
But the tidal wave seeps through the cracks.
Puddles on the floor soak my shoes.
I kick them off and run.

The wave follows me,
Fills me up, chokes me, devours me.
It’s all I see, taste, breathe.
I can’t get it out of me.
It’s in my veins, in my blood:
I cry it, dream it, speak it.

I’m standing on the edge, dripping,
Like a miniature waterfall.
The droplets fall forever --
I want to follow them,
To fall without ever landing.
Falling would be better than standing here --
Soaked, shivering, suffering for eternity.

Cut my arm and bleed me ‘til I’m dry
And I don’t shiver any more.
Or take my hand and follow me off this waterfall.
Make the choice, ‘cause I can’t see --
My vision’s permanently blurred by salty water.
Or is yours too?
